The Metropolitan area is often referred to as the Twin Cities. We have not included much information about St. Paul but believe us there is plenty to do over there also. Below we have attached “Green” Highlights of St. Paul that may be of interest to some of the visitors.

Sustainability honored in St. Paul

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman honored the environmental achievements of 11 individuals and organizations Wednesday with the city's first Sustainable St. Paul awards. The recognition is meant to encourage more eco-friendly projects. The winners: St. Paul public schools, two awards for reducing energy use by more than 10 percent in the past two years and for reducing garbage by recycling school leftovers into livestock feed. Capitol Region Watershed District, for improving water quality through the Arlington-Paschal Stormwater Improvement project. Arlington High School Urban Stewards, for expanding an outdoor classroom in woods near the school, and enhancing habitat for birds and bats. HourCar, a car-sharing program operated by the Neighborhood Energy Connection, for reducing traffic congestion and auto emissions. Flannery Construction, for its new headquarters that uses 37 percent less energy than a traditionally designed building. Great River Greening, for removing invasive shrubs and restoring wooded river bluffs at Mounds Park. Farm in the City, for operating five organic gardens. Ororpa Yang, an Arlington High School junior, for planting and tending organic vegetable gardens at three seniors homes. St. Paul police impound lot employees, for recycling abandoned car bodies and materials. Rick Person, manager of St. Paul's recycling program, for more than 25 years of service and leadership on environmental issues.
